More than 150 walkers took part in ‘Walking West’ on Sunday 28 September, stepping out onto the Thames Path to mark a decade since Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital joined forces to become one Trust. The event raised over £27,000 (including Gift Aid) for CW+, our official Trust charity.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust hailed as national exemplar for AI to support patient care
As part of the UK government’s AI Exemplar Programme announcement on 17 August, the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) along with the Secretary of State, Peter Kyle, visited the Trust to learn more about the different ways they are implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support patient care. AI refers to computer systems that can carry out tasks usually requiring human intelligence—such as identifying patterns in images or data, learning from experience, and making recommendations.
Changes to our organisational governance
The boards of the four NHS trusts that make up the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative have agreed to move to a formal group structure, with an overarching group chief executive, from next April. We will continue as separate NHS Trusts while developing organisational structures that enable more joined-up decision-making that will help us improve acute and specialist healthcare—as well as health more generally—for our diverse communities.
Trust joins world-first vaccination programme to prevent gonorrhoea
Award-winning sexual health services at the Trust are some of the first in the country to roll out the meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine from 1 August. The vaccine is being offered to eligible groups, including gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men (MSM) who are considered at highest risk. People of other genders and sexualities may also be eligible if assessed to be at high risk.
West Middlesex lift refurbishment (Apr–Oct 2025)
Essential refurbishment of Lifts 3 and 4 at West Middlesex is underway until October 2025, affecting access to Syon 1 & 2 and Osterley 1 & 2 wards. To minimise disruption, the lifts will be refurbished one at a time, meaning only one lift will be in service at any given time—please plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.
Supporting a smokefree generation
To mark No Smoking Day, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a smokefree generation. Both of the Trust's hospital sites will be smokefree by June 1 when the UK's Tobacco and Vapes Bill comes into effect. Smoking and vaping will not be permitted anywhere on hospital grounds, including entrances, car parks and outdoor areas. This policy aligns with the Trust's core aims to promote health and wellbeing, reduce the risks associated with smoking and passive exposure, and ensure the best possible care for our patients.
